Immediately following this past spring's Take Action Tour, Polar Bear Club lead singer Jimmy Stadt took some time out to answer talk about their upcoming full length (which is expected out this summer) as well as tours both past and future.
[email protected]: Please state your name and your role in the band.
Jimmy Stadt: I'm Jimmy and I sing.
[email protected]: You guys just went on the Take Action Tour with Bayside, Silverstein, The Swellers, and Texas In July. How has the tour been?
Jimmy Stadt: It was incredible! It went by really fast looking back on it. It was nice to meet some bands we didn't know and not surprisingly so, they all turned out to be great people.
[email protected]: Over the past few months you’ve added an impressive slew of tours to your resumes, including the Australian Soundwave Festival. How was the reaction from your fans Down Under?
Jimmy Stadt: Australians dig us. It's one of our favorite countries to tour in, it's not too dissimilar to playing in the states really. The kids down there really know us best by our newest record which is a little different to over here where a lot of our fans have been with us since '06 or '07.
[email protected]: You guys are now preparing to release your third full-length, Clash Battle Guilt Pride. What are your thoughts on the album prior to its release?
Jimmy Stadt: We're really proud of this record. Listening back on it, I don't really think it's that much of a departure but more so a step forward for PBC. It still sounds really loud and dirty but in the context of more song writery songs.
[email protected]: How do you feel the lyrics and atmosphere of the new record compare to Sometimes Things Just Disappear and Chasing Hamburg?
Jimmy Stadt: Well lyrically there's a lot about ambition and drive on this record. I've never really written about that before. It's about relationships to everything in the world outside yourself and how your ambitions or hopes can play into them.
[email protected]: Guide us through the process or writing and recording the album.
Jimmy Stadt: Well it's a bit more complicated than I can write here but it's also as simple as making music we like. We get together and throw some ideas around and construct em into a song. Then I put vocals to it and we re- work it and re-tool it and demo it. It's really a collaborative process, there isn't one person pulling all the strings.
[email protected]: For the new record, you worked with Brian McTernan, who has worked with bands ranging from Texas Is The Reason and Converge to Senses Fail and Emarosa. What was it like working with such a renowned producer? In what ways did he help shape the sound on the new record?
Jimmy Stadt: He was really excited about the songs which really inspired us to do well. He just helped us fine tune the songs in ways that we would never think of because we were too "inside" the song. It's hard to explain song-writing because it's so instinctual but it was just good to have another different voice in the mix.
[email protected]: For our readers’ sake, which songs on the new record are you most excited for people to hear?
Jimmy Stadt: The first track, that's all I'll say.
[email protected]: Now that you all have a considerable fan base following your impressive tour resume, what are the odds of the band embarking on another headline tour in support of the new record?
Jimmy Stadt: We one hundred percent will be headlining off this record the second it comes out. I can't say with what bands but the announcement should be up soon.
[email protected]: Finally, is there anything you’d like to add or say to the fans?
Jimmy Stadt:Go to the album website! clashbattleguiltpride.com We are gonna be putting updates up through there. Thanks.
