The desire for positivity in a world gone array has become an extremely difficult pursuit. As far as modern music goes, most of us tend to relate to those who are crying and broken over a studio mic and beseeching melancholic minor tones, but The Classic Crime shifts away from this tendency by creating an enlightening record chock full of personal proclamations, the desire for a better world, the purveyance of unconditional love, and the undeserved grace they’ve received.

Vagabonds is drenched in humility. So much, in fact, that it’s Matt McDonald’s lyrics combined with his dynamic and powerful vocal delivery that is the main component of the records endearing quality. Five seconds into the lead off track “A Perfect Voice”, and it’s readily apparent what’s in store for the remainder of the record. McDonald proclaims “I may not have a perfect voice, but I’ll still sing at the top of my lungs, until my days are done.” The lead-off track so perfectly sets up the tone for Vagabonds.

Just when you think nothing could go wrong, the band’s largest misstep comes in the form of “Solar Powered Life”. The band’s designated single is just about as cheesy as it gets with an 80’s style anthem flair, the song, minus its modern-day lyrical concept, was destined to stay back in the hair-metal era. However, that really is the album’s only noticeable flaw. Jumping right back in is the track “Four Chords”. The wonderful simplicity of the instrumentation and McDonald’s seemingly flawless vocal delivery makes for a great listening experience as he sings in the bridge “Even if I die tomorrow, I’ll be glad my life was filled with songs, and maybe if I die tomorrow these four chords will keep me living on.”

Vagabonds is a marvelous treat for the ears. The songs are very easy to listen to, and very difficult not to sing along with those soaring catchy-as-hell choruses that just breathe sincerity with each and every note. Despite the unbearably lackluster single cut “Solar Powered Life”, this is the band at their best.

The Classic Crime is a Seattle-based alternative rock band. They released their Tooth & Nail debut album, 'Albatross', in 2006. It marked the fastest first-week sales for a new artist in the history of T&N. The band members are Matt MacDonald (vocals), Justin DuQue (guitar), Robert "Cheeze" Negrin (guitar), Alan Clark (bass), and Paul "Skip" Erickson (drums).

While touring in support of their full-length album Albatross, the band created the Acoustic EP: Seattle Sessions, which was simply a compilation of songs they created while on the road.
